How Would A Storm Like This Affect Us Today?

Solar storms as big as the Carrington Event are only predicted to happen once every 500 years. However, this does not mean a solar storm will never happen between now and 2359. On July 23, 2012, a series of solar flares were emitted from the Sun that just barely missed Earth’s geomagnetic field. Due to the rapid advancement of technology, a solar storm like the Carrington Event is predicted to set our advancements back by about a decade if we were unprepared. Luckily, astronomical advancements mean that a geomagnetic threat can be found before it happens.
